gatherings

People often assume that spiritual development is a journey for them to pursue alone. This attitude is at least partially due to a culture of alienation within postmodern society, which reinforces values of individualism and self-reliance at the expense of a feeling of community and mutual responsibility.

The truth is that being a spiritually mature Christian is grounded in the healthiness of our relationships with others and Creation, in general. Having companions on our spiritual journeys ensures that we don't become selfish, blinded by the subjectivity of own points of view, and insensitive to the needs of others. When we focus only on own needs, we lose the sense of mutual obligation and support that leads to justice, peace and love in the world.

Because gathering as a community is an important part of spiritual growth, I regularly schedule workshops and other events that allow us to support each other, learn and practice Christian spiritual discplines, and explore the greatest depths of ourselves. I encourage you to check my Website often for the dates, times, and locations for these events. You can also learn more about the NW Suburbs LGBTQ Spirituality Meetup that I facilitate on its meetup.com page. I hope that you will join us soon and share your spiritual journey with us.
